New Exterior Accents

The 2025 Explorer will sport new exterior design elements that draw inspiration from Ford's latest trucks and SUVs. The grille is broader and more upright, flanked by slim LED headlights. The side profile cuts a muscular stance with pronounced wheel arches and crisp lines. Around the back, the taillights extend across the liftgate in distinctive light bars. Overall, the new Explorer looks rugged and modern.

It's important to note that for 2025, Ford has discontinued several previous Explorer trim levels. The new model will be available in four trims: Active, ST-Line, ST, and Platinum.

Interior Changes

Inside, the cabin receives a slight overhaul, with higher-quality materials, improved ergonomics, and more passenger space than the outgoing model. A large 13.2-inch touchscreen takes center stage, running Ford’s new Ford Digital Experience software for the first time. This software enables Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and over-the-air updates. The digital instrument cluster can also be customized based on drive mode.

Passenger comfort remains a top priority. The front seats are redesigned for better support, while second-row occupants enjoy additional legroom and the ability to slide the chairs at the push of a button. Even the third row sees improvements in ingress/egress and knee space.

Available amenities include a twin-panel moonroof, heated/ventilated front seats, and a premium B&O® sound system by Bang & Olufsen® featuring 14 speakers and a subwoofer.

Powertrain Upgrades

Under the hood, the 2025 Explorer gets a selection of potent yet efficient turbocharged EcoBoost engines. The base 2.3-liter turbo four-cylinder provides 300 horsepower and 310 pounds-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the available 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 produces over 400 horsepower and 415 pounds-feet of torque – figures that put the Explorer at the top of its class for acceleration.

A 10-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive are standard; however, all-wheel drive is available. When properly equipped, the Explorer maintains its impressive 5,000-pound tow rating.
