The 2026 Ford Explorer Active stands out as a smart value buy in the midsize SUV segment by delivering a high level of standard equipment without hidden upcharges.
Analytical shoppers comparing spec sheets will appreciate that this SUV includes sought-after amenities standardâ"such as a rearview camera, third-row seating, and SiriusXM with 360Lâ"enabling practical family use and seamless connectivity. The 4WD drivetrain and heated mirrors are especially valuable in climates like Homewood, IL, where inclement weather is common. For buyers who scrutinize cost-per-feature and consider the practicalities of daily commuting, this model offers a compelling mix of comfort, safety, and utility without the need to upgrade trims or add expensive packages.
From a value-per-performance perspective, the Explorer Activeâs 2.3L EcoBoost I-4 paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and 4WD delivers strong, responsive everyday driving thatâs rare at this price point. Its powertrain balances capable acceleration and highway passing with an EPA-estimated 20 city and 27 highway MPG, making it a cost-effective choice for those tracking fuel expenses. The efficient four-cylinder engine keeps routine maintenance costs lower than many V6-powered rivals, helping to stretch your dollar farther over years of ownership.
Safety value is a core strength, as the Explorer Active equips standard features like ABS brakes, electronic stability control, emergency communication via 911 Assist, and a rear parking cameraâ"equipment that often costs extra elsewhere. Dual front, side, knee, and overhead airbags plus traction control form a comprehensive active safety suite that provides peace of mind without hidden fees. The inclusion of speed-sensing steering and fully automatic headlights further enhances everyday security, all as part of the base package.
Standard features on this SUV include a navigation system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, six-speaker audio, rear air conditioning, split-folding third-row bench, and dual-zone automatic climate controlâ"elements that enable flexible everyday routines and family comfort. Remote keyless entry, power driver seat, power windows, and a security system add daily convenience, while heated door mirrors and automatic high-beam headlights help tackle seasonal challenges. All these features are built into the Active trim, maximizing utility at no extra cost.
When compared to competitors like the Honda Pilot EX and Toyota Highlander LE, the Explorer Active delivers advantages in standard technology and drivetrain versatility. While rivals often require buyers to pay more for navigation, premium connectivity, or a 4WD system, this model includes them upfront. Its blend of turbocharged efficiency and comprehensive equipment gives it a decisive edge for buyers who prioritize getting the most features for every dollar spent, maximizing value without compromising quality.
What equipment comes standard? The Explorer Active features navigation, tri-zone automatic climate, 4WD, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a comprehensive safety suiteâ"all included in the base price. Is this SUV worth the price? Given its robust feature set and competitive efficiency, it delivers strong overall value.

So far so good - smooth ride - plenty of power for a 2.3 liter 4 cyl which coming from someone who drove a 5.0 V8 for 20 yrs- much better on gas - 4.0
Served our family well!
by Beth on 2/19/2026 11:46:55 PM
Trading my car in next week, I am gonna miss my Explorer. It’s been a good family car. Draw backs: the screen is glitchy at times. Some electronics malfunctioned and I won’t lie, they can be costly to fix. Comfortable, spacious. I never had any mechanical problems with the car, but I did take very good care of it at well. I maintained all recommended services and any replacements were all genuine Ford parts. I hope whoever buys our car, loves it as much as we did.
