The 2026 Ford Maverick XLT makes immediately clear that a hybrid truck can deliver genuine driving satisfaction. Steering feels direct and light in the hands, encouraging confident inputs in city traffic and on sweeping highways.
This truck is designed for drivers who appreciate the difference between numb utility and a genuinely enjoyable drive. Urban commuters and suburban adventurers alike will notice how the compact size and responsive steering make it easy to dart through crowded streets or navigate tight parking lots. For those in places like rd St. Homewood, IL, where unpredictable weather and busy commutes are part of daily life, the Maverick XLTâs blend of maneuverability, technology, and refinement enhances every mile. If you demand a vehicle that transitions seamlessly from weekday tasks to weekend escapes, this hybrid is engineered for your lifestyle.
Under the hood, the 2.5L I-4 Hybrid engine pairs with a CVT and front-wheel drive to deliver linear, predictable acceleration. The throttle responds smoothly, making merging onto highways or dashing across intersections feel controlled and effortless. The CVTâs tuning prioritizes seamless power delivery, avoiding the droning or rubber-band sensation some hybrids suffer. Steering is tuned with a car-like weight and communicates road texture without harshness, giving you feedback without fatigue. The suspension absorbs bumps with composure yet resists wallow when carrying cargo or shifting lanes at speed, contributing to a confident, stable ride. Brake feel is progressive and easy to modulate, offering assurance in daily use and stop-and-go traffic alike.
Safety technology on the Maverick XLT is engineered to enhance, not intrude on, the driving experience. Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking activates only when genuinely needed, supporting your reactions without diminishing your sense of control. The Lane-Keeping System gently guides, never fights, your chosen line, so attentive drivers feel assisted, not overridden. Auto High-Beam Headlights and Intersection Assist respond intuitively, increasing visibility and awareness during night or complex traffic situations. The Rear-View Camera and Electronic Stability Control work together to bolster your confidence when maneuvering in tight spots or navigating slippery conditions, making every drive feel secure yet engaging.
Technology and comfort features on the Maverick XLT are curated for the driver who expects more from every trip. The Ford Connectivity Package with 5G modem integration and a year of included service keeps you connected whether streaming music or accessing navigation. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make integrating your smartphone seamless, while automatic temperature control and unique cloth front bucket seats ensure comfort during long drives.
Compared to the Hyundai Santa Cruz Hybrid and Toyota Tacoma Hybrid, this truck stands out for its composed handling and class-leading city fuel economyâ"42 mpg in the city and 35 on the highway. Unlike rivals that require expensive upgrades for similar technology, the Maverick XLT delivers advanced features as standard.
Does the Maverick XLT make driving feel rewarding every day? Absolutelyâ"its steering, responsive hybrid powertrain, and composed chassis combine to elevate routine trips. How does it compare in ride comfort and technology? With unique cloth bucket seats, automatic temperature control, and Ford Connectivity Package standard, it sets a high bar.

Perfect compact truck.
by Franky on 7/23/2026 6:49:28 PM
It is perfect for everything I do, small appliance pick up, fishing, kayaking, towing small boats. And I get 41MPG. Plastic interior is a little cheap, but so was the truck. Hybrid system is extremely smooth. Lots of power, picks up fast coming from a Corolla. - 5.0
Nice little truck with great MPG
by Alex on 7/18/2026 2:12:33 AM
I drive a lot for my job and this truck has been great for its MPG. I switched to this from a Bronco sport and they handle very much the same. However I was only getting 25 MPG with that. Averaging 41 with the Mav! - 5.0
2nd Mav
by Generalmgr on 5/10/2026 12:26:28 PM
2025 Lariat hybrid AWD. Had a 2023 2.0 XLT. No real complaints about either. Hybrid efficiency around town is great, like 50 mpg. Highway at 70mph I’m only getting 33-34. Tows my 2-ATV trailer ok, but plan ahead if any get up and go is needed. The truck has plenty of torque at lower speeds but the lack of power at higher speeds is noticeable. This is my first EVT, didn’t think I’d like it but it really works perfectly. The best part is going downhill… the truck will maintain the speed you’re at when you lift off the gas. When the truck transitions from electric to gas, there is zero indication…no noise or shudder…zero. If you’re not looking at the dash you’d never know what mode the truck is in. The Lariat hybrid is much quieter overall than the EB. Auto headlights work really well. Did great in the heavy snow we had this year. Lane centering works very well. Few nitpicks: no fog light option? C’mon man. I’m not a fan of the touch only hvac controls, and they lag a bit on startup. The various menus in the dash cluster and in the infotainment screen are not at all intuitive, they are ridiculously bad….whoever signed off on those needs to find another profession. Good thing you don’t have to do much in there once you have things set up the way you like. I wish the truck had a slightly bigger battery…it would be nice to be able to go a a mile or two on electric only if you’re in Eco mode. The Lariat should have a super-cruise option, and a built in dash cam option. A cold weather package would be icing on the cake , especially if it included covering up the various under body areas that appear vulnerable from being open to the elements. Overall: yes I’d buy another Maverick, and I do recommend them to others….but… if other manufacturers come out with a truck that has all my wish list items, then I’d consider switching.
