The 2022 Ford Escape SE stands out as a smart choice among compact SUVs, especially when cross-shopping against the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4. Its primary advantages are its efficient 1.5L EcoBoost engine, impressive AWD capability, and a well-balanced blend of comfort and technology. With the SE Sport Appearance Package and an EPA-estimated 26 city/31 highway mpg, this Escape provides a unique combination of style and practical fuel economy that few rivals can match.
Shoppers comparing several SUVs benefit most from the Escape SE's focus on versatility, comfort, and technology for daily commuting and family use. The inclusion of heated front row seats, a panoramic Vista Roof, and dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control makes it especially appealing for those navigating both city streets and seasonal weather variations, such as those found in the rd St. Homewood, IL area. Its remote start system and power liftgate add everyday convenience, ideal for busy families or active professionals.
While competitors may offer comparable engines, this SUV features a 1.5L EcoBoost paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD, delivering smooth acceleration and confident handling in a range of driving conditions. Unlike the CR-V's CVT, the Escape's traditional automatic transmission provides a more engaging driving experience and responsive gear shifts. The AWD system ensures stability and control on slick or uneven roads, making it well-suited for urban and suburban lifestyles.
Safety is enhanced in the Escape SE with standard features that some competitors offer only as costly options. Its active safety suite includes advanced systems that work seamlessly to improve driver awareness and help avoid potential hazards. While rivals like the RAV4 and CR-V require buyers to select higher trims or packages for similar safety content, the Escape SE makes these features accessible without extra expense, reinforcing its position as a smart, value-driven choice.
This Escape comes equipped with the SE Sport Appearance Package, which elevates its look with stylish exterior details and a modern interior. The Cold Weather Package adds heated front seats and a premium wrapped steering wheel, enhancing comfort during colder months. The Convenience Package brings a power liftgate and an 8-way power driver seat, while the SYNC 3 Communications & Entertainment System ensures seamless connectivity and intuitive controls for music, navigation, and hands-free calls.
In a segment dominated by the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, the Escape SE delivers an exceptional value proposition through its combination of standard features, modern styling, and real-world fuel economy. Its Gold Certified status means buyers receive additional peace of mind, with benefits like a comprehensive inspection, transferable limited warranty, and roadside assistance. For those seeking maximum value and contemporary amenities, the Escape clearly stands out.
Why choose the Escape SE over its rivals? It offers standard heated seats and a panoramic Vista Roof, features that may require upgrades on the CR-V or RAV4. What does it offer that others don't? The blend of AWD, SYNC 3, and the SE Sport Appearance Package makes it both functional and stylish.

Great performance highway/city/winters
by Ed S on 8/25/2026 4:16:53 PM
Got the '21 SEL Hybrid used, and it's felt like a steal. I was moving from the south to the northern midwest, and needed a car that could hold family of 4+gear, had good mileage, good handling and driving all seasons, and really preferred some creature comforts. 3 months after purchase, I had to take it on the big test of 3k+ mile trip into the Dakotas, ending in a winter storm the last 250 miles. It handled everything wonderfully, and in comfort. MPG dropped to the low-mid 30's when I was doing pure highway, jumped up to low 40's with combo city/highway. No idea what people are complaining about on engine straining/noise, this thing has handled everything from driving 80 along the highways to climbing a steep grade hill during a blizzard. No issues at all, the AWD is a great need for my winters, and it's more modern features work well. My assumption is those complaining of engine noise/issues have had poor maintenance. I've kept up with mine very diligently, and have nice tires in place to help with winters here. The interesting positive is my year/model came with a map nav and sync as standard. So it has mapping/updating/etc all built in. But I never use it as I still prefer my phone Android Auto setup. Biggest complaint is it feels like there's just not quite enough space in the back, even when dropping the seats. You can fit luggage/hardware/gear in there, but you'll need to be creative. I ended up getting the roof rack as a fall-back for bigger things. - 5.0

Great SUV
by TucsonC on 4/28/2026 7:31:49 PM
Bought my car brand new February 2023. It’s a 2022 model sports package. Love the way it handles. rarely uses gas as I do mostly in town errands. Smaller than my previous Non plug-in Ford Escape, but actually like it that way. Backseat does fold down and plenty of rear cargo room.
